Creating Custom Background Elements
Learn how to create unique background elements for your videos using the Editor Agent and custom uploads.
What are Custom Background Elements?
Custom background elements are visual components that enhance your video scenes. They can be:
- Animated components - Custom-coded animations created by AI
- Images & Videos - Your own media files
- GIFs - Animated graphics
- Dynamic elements - Countdown timers, progress bars, charts, and more
Using the Editor Agent
The Editor Agent can generate custom animated background elements using AI. Simply describe what you want, and it will create a unique component for your video.
Basic Usage
- Open the Editor Agent panel in the video editor
- Type a request describing the element you want
- The AI will generate and add it to your video automatically
Example Prompts
Animated Backgrounds:
- "Create an animated gradient background with flowing colors"
- "Generate a particle effect background with floating dots"
- "Add a morphing shapes background that changes over time"
Decorative Elements:
- "Create floating particles that move across the screen"
- "Generate decorative geometric shapes in the background"
- "Add animated emoji reactions that bounce around"
Text Effects:
- "Create glowing text that pulses with animation"
- "Generate animated text with particle effects"
- "Add bouncing text with custom styling"
Overlay Effects:
- "Create a vignette border effect"
- "Generate a light leak overlay"
- "Add a frame effect around the video"
Layer Placement
The AI automatically determines which layer your element should be on:
- Background layer - Full-scene backgrounds (behind b-rolls)
- Element layer - Decorative elements (above b-rolls, default)
- Overlay layer - Foreground effects and borders
- Text layer - Animated text overlays (top layer)
Customizing AI-Generated Elements
After creating an element, you can customize it:
Using the Editor Agent:
- "Make the gradient background more vibrant"
- "Change the particle color to blue"
- "Make the text larger and change it to red"
- "Update the background element to use a different font"
Using the Toolbar:
- Select the AI-generated element in the canvas
- Use the toolbar to adjust:
- Text content
- Colors (text, background, glow)
- Font size and family
- Size and position
Uploading Custom Elements
You can also upload your own images, videos, or GIFs as background elements.
Steps
- Go to the Elements tab in the editor
- Click Upload in the Custom Elements section
- Select your file (image, video, or GIF)
- Enter a name for your element
- Click Upload
Supported Formats
- Images: JPG, PNG, WebP
- Videos: MP4, WebM, OGG

Tips for Uploads
- Image dimensions - Elements are automatically sized, but larger images provide better quality
- File size - Keep files under 50MB for faster uploads
- Transparency - PNG files with transparency work best for overlays
- Video length - Videos will loop automatically

Editing Elements
Using the Editor Agent
You can update any element using natural language:
- "Move the particle effect to the top right"
- "Make the countdown timer larger"
- "Change the progress bar color to green"
- "Update the text element to say 'Welcome'"
Using the Toolbar
- Select the element in the canvas
- The toolbar will show relevant controls
- Adjust properties like:
- Position (X, Y coordinates)
- Size (width, height)
- Colors
- Text content
- Animation settings
Matching Elements to Scenes
You can automatically match elements to specific scenes:
- Select the element in the timeline
- Choose Match to Scene from the element settings
- Select the target scene
- The element will automatically sync to that scene's timing
Best Practices
For AI-Generated Elements
- Be specific - "Animated gradient with blue and purple colors" is better than "gradient"
- Describe the animation - Mention if you want it to pulse, flow, or morph
- Specify colors - Include color preferences in your prompt
- Mention size - Say if you want it full-screen or as a small element
For Custom Uploads
- Use high-quality files - Better source material = better results
- Consider file size - Balance quality with upload speed
- Test positioning - Preview how elements look in your video format
- Organize with names - Use descriptive names for easy management
General Tips
- Layer strategically - Background elements behind, overlays in front
- Don't overcrowd - Too many elements can distract from your content
- Match your brand - Use consistent colors and styles
- Preview often - Check how elements look in context
Examples
Example 1: Animated Background
Prompt: "Create an animated gradient background that flows from blue to purple with smooth transitions"
Result: A full-screen animated gradient background that automatically cycles through colors
Example 2: Floating Particles
Prompt: "Add floating particles that move slowly across the screen in random directions"
Result: Decorative particle elements that float above your content
Example 3: Glowing Text Overlay
Prompt: "Create glowing text that says 'New Product Launch' with a pulsing animation"
Result: An animated text element with glow effects that pulses on the overlay layer
Example 4: Custom Logo Upload
- Upload your logo as a PNG with transparency
- Position it in the top right corner
- Match it to all scenes for consistent branding
Troubleshooting
Element not appearing?
- Check that it's matched to the correct scene
- Verify the element's start and end frames
- Ensure the layer z-index is correct
Element looks wrong?
- Try regenerating with a more specific prompt
- Adjust colors and size in the toolbar
- Check if the element type matches your intent
Upload failed?
- Check file format is supported
- Ensure file size is under 50MB
- Try a different file format
Advanced: Updating AI Elements
After creating an AI-generated element, you can update specific properties:
Text updates:
- "Change the text to 'Welcome'"
- "Update the text color to blue"
Styling updates:
- "Make the font size larger"
- "Change the background color to red"
- "Add a glow effect in yellow"
Size updates:
- "Make the element bigger"
- "Reduce the size by half"
The Editor Agent will identify the element and update only the properties you specify, preserving all animations and other styling.
